Tyker Program Overview...
Tyker is the boy’s introduction to playing real lacrosse. Every child will play in-house at Padonia Elementary. The league is 8 vs 8 refereed games on Saturday mornings. Tyker is open to all boys between the ages of 7 to 8.
The primary purpose of the Tyker program is to expand the fundamentals the boys were taught in Clinic & Pockets while continuing to reinforce fundamentals of the game (scooping, throwing & catching). In Tyker we begin to introduce the following:
- Offensive sets (3-2-1)
- Simple offensive plays
- Setting picks
- Defensive sets
- Checking (stick & body)
- Defensive slides
- Clears & Rides
Tykers wear full pads (helmet, shoulder, arm, gloves, mouth piece & athletic cup) while playing. Play begins from day 1 with a real ball and we go forward from there.
Tykers begin the first weekend in March (weather permitting) and will run until around May 19th. You can expect 1 or 2 weeknight practices and one Saturday morning game, with each lasting about 90 minutes. Exact weeknight schedules will be posted once we have final field assignments from the rec council.
Similar to our other programs, you can expect to begin the season primarily with practices, and then you will move to a practice/game format as the season progresses. We typically have 6 teams at this age group that play each other Saturday Morning once our game schedule begins.
We begin to keep score as the boys begin to experience a more competitive pace of play with the primary focus on still having fun.
Expect additional details to be posted on our website as we near the beginning of the season.
As always, if you have any questions, thoughts or concerns please send us an email to:
Enjoy your season!
